Swedish Glögg
A swedish spin on mulled wine. A staple in the Stenquist holidays.
Ingredients
- 3 handfuls of raisins
- 9 almonds, cut in half
- 12 cloves
- 9 cardamom seeds, broken up
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 1/2 orange or pomegranate peel, cut into 1/4” slices
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 cups water
- 10 pieces of dried or candied citron
- 1 pint port wine
- 1 quart of whiskey (usually Candadian Club/Mist or similar)
Instructions
- Add all ingredients EXCEPT the wine and whiskey to a pot
- Stir to ensure sugar is mixed into water
- Bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes
- Strain using a cheese cloth
- Let cool
- Enjoy with family and friends. Skål!
Notes
We like to call the strained out leftovers the “Garbage”. It should be used in bread or other recipes. Don’t let it go to waste!
